OETP  is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all learners including young people and vulnerable adults. Employers also have a responsibility to the learners they employ. We also recognise that we have a duty to help employers, staff and learners to recognise their responsibilities, through guidance, support and training. It is important that all our employers understand their responsibilities for our learners and what safeguarding means to them.

We wish to treat people as individuals and work with our students as individuals so that we can provide the support that they specifically need to gain the best that they can from their time in learning. OETP is committed to promoting the Prevent strategy for all learners including young people and vulnerable adults. Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremist causes. Prevent Strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism, including the extreme right wing, violent Islamist groups and other causes. This means we have a responsibility to protect children from extremist and violent views the same way we protect them from drugs or gang violence.

Health and Safety

By virtue of a number of Acts of Parliament, OETP has duties to learners to make ‘reasonably practicable provisions for securing their safety, health and welfare’ whilst on Training premises and off-site on Training organised activities. Further duties are owed in common law. However, such duties do not rest with us alone. It is clear at every stage that safety is a matter for close cooperation with learners playing an active part.
